Week of March 1st

Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather! I am so happy to see the sunshine today.

We have a busy week, and the last one of the third nine weeks! Make it count. This week only, I am giving out spirals tomorrow, Monday, and they will be due FRIDAY MARCH 5th. I must turn in grades by Monday of next week, so I will not be able to give the usual 7 days to work on them. I debated giving you one this week, but feel that many people could use the grade boost, so again, they are due Friday. You are welcome to turn them in early. If you are absent on Friday, I will not accept them late (you will just not receive a grade for the spiral).

6th grade--- we are continuing to work on integers this week, test Wednesday, March 3rd. You MUST memorize and apply the integer rules!!!

7th grade---we will work on a few more sections in Ch. 8 (Geometry) this week. No class Thursday because of our Avery Island field trip. Your spirals are due the next day however.

Have a wonderful week!

Week of February 22nd

Hello all,

I hope you enjoyed the weekend. This is our first full school-week in three weeks, so let's make it a great one!

6th grade- Spiral due on Tuesday. No tests this week. Your "Mapping our Way through Geometry" poster is due at the beginning of class tomorrow. We will be working on integers this week, going back to Chapter 6. No quizzes or test this week. Quiz next week (hopefully on Wednesday 3/3) on first three sections of Chapter 6 (comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting integers). This will be the last major grade of the nine weeks, make it count!

7th grade- Spiral due on Tuesday. Test Friday on Chapter 8 Sections 1 -4. Review sheets will go home by Tuesday. Lots of figure names and vocabulary on this test (polygons and angles) so you might want to make notecards for these! This will most likely be the last major grade of the nine weeks, make it count!

Wednesday is Science Night, and a no homework night. I hope that you will all attend.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Serpas :)

Ash Wednesday

Hello all,

I hope you had a safe and fun Mardi Gras holiday!

I passed out spirals to both sections last week; they are due Tuesday, February 23rd (next week). As always spirals may be turned in early. No tests this week.

6th grade will be working on an in-class Geometry project that will be finished up Friday. Next week we will return to Chapter 6 to cover integers. It is CRUCIAL that students memorize and apply the integer rules.

7th grade we will begin Chapter 8 this week-angles and polygons. Test next week date TBA.

Have a great week!

Week of February 8th

Hi everyone,

Just a few notes about the upcoming week.

6th grade- Spiral due on Tuesday at the beginning of class. You have a test on this Wednesday, 2/10, on Ch. 4 Sections 1 - 4. Though it only covers four sections, there is a LOT of information and vocabulary in these sections, please refer to the gold study sheet that went home Friday for test information and format. This test will cover information from the previous test (including the same vocabulary words) but a greater emphasis will be placed on the last two sections. As of Friday we have covered all test information and Monday and Tuesday will be review days. Following the test, we will begin our project (which goes along with the poster board you brought) which will be done entirely in-class; this project will finish up our Geometry unit. We will then go back to Chapter 6 to start our integer unit.

7th grade- Spiral due on Tuesday at the beginning of class. Test Thursday 2/11 on Ch.7 Sections 1- 7. Please refer to the bright gold test review sheet that was passed out on Friday. We have two more sections to cover before the test, but started one of these sections on Friday. We will cover the rest of the information on Monday from section 6 and cover section 7 on Tuesday, Wednesday is a review day. This is a major test that will cover a lot of information! All students should have a calculator for this test. Any calculator is fine, scientific calculators are not necessary.

Both grades: to prepare for your tests, re-work homework problems, use the online book and tutorials, work odd problems from the book (and check your answers in the back of the book), make flashcards for vocabulary, etc.

I will pass out a new spiral one day this week that will be due Tuesday, February 23rd. I am allowing extra time for those of you who will be going out of town for Mardi Gras. As always, you may turn in spirals early. For those of you going out of town for Mardi Gras, I do not give out specific assignments in advance as they are always based on what we accomplish during class. You may turn in your spiral early if you would like. 6th grade will be finishing a project, and 7th grade will be working on an activity based on Chapter 7 so you should not have much to make up.

I will not be at school on Monday as I am going to Miami for the Super Bowl with my husband. I look forward to telling you about the trip when I return on Tuesday. Ms. Scafide will be your substitute on Monday and I have left plenty of test review work for you to do. I also left a list of names of people who received work deficiencies, if they are not turned in on Monday you will receive a referral. So get those signed and turned in!

Have a great week, and I will leave you with a last.....

One more thing!

We are continuing in Chapter 7 this week (7th grade) and Chapter 10 this week (6th grade).

February 1st

Hello all,

I hope that everyone had a nice weekend. Just a few reminders about the week ahead. Both 6th & 7th grade must turn in spirals tomorrow (Tuesday, February 2nd). Yes, this is retreat day, but they are due tomorrow (as originally scheduled). There will be classtime tomorrow after the retreat has ended. New spirals will be passed out tomorrow to both grades.

I do not yet have the next test date determined (for either grade), stay tuned for more information.

6th grade-your half-size white poster board is due TODAY! As of Friday, no one had turned these in. A note was sent home to parents about this last week as well as being on the website. If posters are not turned in today, work deficiencies will be sent home. You may turn them in by WEDNESDAY of this week, that is far as the extension will go. Work deficiencies will be due tomorrow.

A few thoughts about third nine weeks---traditionally grades seem to take a dip 3rd nine weeks. School fatigue, holiday let-down, increasingly hard material, all of these factor in. Please do your part to keep your grades up by turning in homework, spirals, and preparing for your tests. Several 7th graders seem to have been caught by surprise by the vocabulary that was on the last test....I said in class that these would be on the test, we reviewed these definitions daily, and the words were on the review sheet! Pay attention to the review sheets, I always take the time to make these for your benefit...no surprises on the test. :)

Please let me know if you have any questions! Parents and students are always welcome to email me, lserpas@aloysius.org.
