Some quiz info:

6th grade: Quiz is tomorrow on 4.1 and 4.2:
-Identify numbers as prime or composite. If numbers are composite must list 3 factors
-Write all the factors of a number (listing)
-Write prime factorization of a number (use a factor tree to find prime factors)
-Find GCF of two or more numbers using Prime Factorization (Factor tree) AND by listing. Pay attention to the directions.
**** You will be given a review/practice sheet to work on in homeroom before field trip. The other math classes will also be working on something for their class.

7th grade: Quiz tomorrow: 2.7, 3.1, 3.2
*Use Distributive Property to simplify expressions.
+ Take care of "housekeeping" first by changing subtraction to adding the opposite, then by putting the understood one in front of any variable by itself.
*Solve and check one-step equations using format shown in class.

CALCULATORS MAY BE USED IF WORK AND STEPS ARE SHOWN!!!!

Week of October 30th

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a wonderful time at the fair!

A few notes:

*Spirals due TUESDAY. Most people turned them in early which is great.
*Help session Tuesday and Thursday this week- 7:30 in my room- M-15. Please bring something  to write on and write with.

6th grade: Spiral due Tuesday.
Quiz Wednesday 10/31 (after your field trip) on Prime Factorization and GCF. We have just started GCF so you will only have a few of these problems on the quiz.

7th grade: Spiral due Tuesday.
Test Wednesday 10/31 on 2.7, 3.1, 3.2. This is Distributive Property (from last quiz), and One-Step Equations.
You must use the methods shown in class- you will solve and check equations.

Reminders: Mass Thursday- All Saints Day

Special Schedule Friday: 7th & 8th grade class mass, treat day, pep rally. I will also not be at school this day- final moving day for me! Ms. Nancy Hardin is your sub.

Have a wonderful week!

Oops I did it again!

Hi everyone,

I have switched to a new spiral format that I would like to try. This is the first time I have handed these out, and apparently I did not do a good job proof-reading.

They are due Tuesday but may turned in be on or before Friday for 1 bonus point.

A few notes:
6th & 7th grade: You will need to use a ruler to find distance of something measured in centimeters. I have many of these in my classroom.

6th grade Spiral: #2) I did not draw the shape before running off papers. Students are to copy shape down in class today.
#6) Please ignore/correct name typos in this problem (kids and kits). I certainly don't mean to state that kids should be packed in boxes :)

7th grade: Unless otherwise stated, always use 3.14 for Pi, do not use Pi key on calculator or 22/7.

Thanks y'all and see you at the fair!

Week of October 22nd

Good morning everyone,

Hope you have enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend!
Thanks to the parents who came to conferences Thursday and Friday. If any parent ever has a question for me, the best way to contact me is through email: lserpas@aloysius.org.

6th grade: Quiz Monday 10/22 on 3.1. Students must know definitions of mean, median, mode and range, as well as calculate those values and answer questions about sets of data. Calculators ARE allowed for this quiz. We will pick back up in Chapter 4 on Tuesday- Prime Factorization, GCF, LCM, etc. Spiral due Tuesday 10/23.

7th grade: Spiral due Tuesday 10/23. We will continue in Chapter 3 this week- solving equations. No quizzes or tests.

Have a fabulous week!

Week of October 15th

Good morning everyone!

Short week ahead but it will be busy. Just a reminder that all 5th - 8th grade students will be dismissed at noon on Thursday and will not have school Friday due to conferences.

Reminder- all students (6th & 7th grade) need to bring a calculator to class DAILY! Pink slip (lack of materials) if calculator is not brought to class. Calculators may be purchased from the school, or you are welcome to buy a calculator elsewhere.

6th grade: Spiral 7 due Tuesday 10/16. Spiral 8 passed out Tuesday and due Tuesday 10/23.
Chapter 2 test will  be Tuesday as well (refer to handout of this site for test info). I am tentatively planning a quiz on 3.1 (Mean Median Mode) on Thursday 10/18. I will check the test calendar when I get to school tomorrow and will let you know by class time when that will be scheduled.

7th grade: Spiral 7 due Tuesday 10/16. Spiral 8 passed out Tuesday and due Tuesday 10/23.
Chapter 2 test will  be Tuesday as well (refer to handout or this site for test info). We will start in Chapter 3- equations- after Tuesday's test.

Have a wonderful week!
